what'd you do with your weekend? cause we shoveled 3.75 tons of 3/4" blue crush. weather forecast predicts rain for tomorrow. i say, "bring it on". we're so ready (except for those gutters...ahem) it's not even funny....

woke up early saturday morning, grabbed coffee in our travel mugs and set out to uhaul to snatch a pick-up truck. yes, this was really the sign for the uhaul lot. we think, maybe, it was an official lot. then again, it might not have been....

took the truck for a little ride over to the rock place to get some rocks. their tractor was missing a tire so we took silly photos while we waited for them to fix it.
because we were foolish responsible renters, we only took the recommended load of 3/4 ton per trip. this meant we took a total of 5 trips back and forth to bring the grand total of 3.75 tons of crushed rock back up our long, steep driveway.
unfortunately for truck-driver curt, the trips just happened to coincide with the largest motorcycle rally on the face of the earth. ever. (hell's angels club in the neighborhood...)a few more photos of the neighborhood....

and back at the ranch...lots of shoveling, lots of weak knees and sore shoulders. so worth it.
pretty, no?we took it easy on sunday (well, i did at least....). curt chopped up chainsawed all of the branches we cut way back when so that we could stack it on our new log rack.
and we finally fixed our little wedgewood wood-burning stove. see what i mean when i say we're ready for the rain? hot tea, knitting and the smoke alarm by my side.

by the way, our perfect little stove is missing a back leg.
anyone know where we can get someone to cast a new one for us (for not too much money)? or some place that sells replacement parts for old wedgewoods? we tried reliance appliance in berkeley. the guy told me that there used to be someone who cast old legs, but he moved and retired. double whammy. didn't know of any other place to go...

Your place looks neat. Simplistic yet imaginative with good balance. We're in the process of drawing up plans for the place we'll build starting next Spring. Your pics were helpful in visualizing smaller sized house spaces. Something not easy to find apparently. Was it really only $19.95 for your rent truck?

The gravel with the succulents looks fabulous! Yep, it was worth it.
