it's easy to have ideas about how to set-up a home but there's nothing like living in it to spur the urge to get rid of everything and start over.

we're in the midst of an office/craft-area makeover and living room makeover adjustment and 'fore i share photos of the process (it's still a bit messy) i thought i'd show you the old...office/crafty-area before = dumping spot
(those dingy white shelves are the old shoe rack)

i needed a new desk. the old one was too big and i ended up piling things on top of the space until i couldn't use it anymore.

our solution was to make a smaller desktop and add some storage. i found a base i liked at ikea but the top was typical ikea trashy particle board. luckily i was able to buy the base only....
i spent a few days looking for a nice alternative until i came back to ikea (because of price). i ended up buying a much nicer butcher block style desktop and cutting it down to fit the base.
i was leftover with enough matching wood for 2 nice shelves using these brackets.

we also moved our living room bookcase to the office corner. and replaced this very comfy but massive green chair with a smaller, more appropriate, chair we had in storage.
i think we've finally come to understand that the key for a small home is to stay small....
more pictures next week of the updated spaces...
