Ever wonder how kohlrabi grows? I (wrongly) assumed it grew in the ground like a beet or radish. What a surprise to see the bright purple bulb snuggled in amongst the leaves. The leaves are also very tasty.
Other goings-on around the garden:
Last year we planted 12 strawberry plants. When the first set of blooms appeared, we followed my mother-in-law's advice and pinched off all of the buds. We continued for the first few months and harvested maybe a handful of berries. She swore it would help them develop strong roots over time.
She was very right. This year we've had non-stop strawberries.
Lettuce and wild anise. Any ideas for what to do with anise? So far we've eaten it straight and sprinkled it in salads. We have it growing all over the backyard.
Our lovely nectarine tree has some funky leaves. We're thinking maybe leaf curl? Ideas?
Apricot tree with no funky leaves and tons of fruit. Looking forward to eating apricots....

That kohlrabi is ridiculous.
I am jealous of the strawberries. I have never had any luck with them. It looks like I need to try your mom-in-law's trick!

Our nectarine tree has the same thing happening (only the blisters are red). I just discovered it the other day! I did some research and found that this is what they call "peach leaf curl." It affects other trees as well (like peaches!). It's a type of fungus. The simplest advice was to pick those leaves off when ever you see them and burn them, sooner being better than later as eventually it will bloom into a white powdery mildew. New leaves should then grow in that are free of disease. Supposedly it doesn't usually affect the fruit. Beautiful photos. Your garden is further along than ours!
