friday morning home depot shopping. apparently it was "contractors day". we didn't really know what that meant except that we got to pose in front of an awesome race car that said: sheetrock. oh, and we got free shirts. we're total pros now...
we're babysitting for galen's friends: rooster, turkey 1 and turkey 2. maybe more like foster parents since they may be more long term.
sheetrocking the funny alcove in the bedroom.

breakfast saturday morning. yummy plums from one of our eight (as counted so far...still have another 1/2 acre to scour) plum trees.

front bedroom primed and ready for painting.

proof that i don't just take photos all day.
sunday, we primed the bathroom and living room. galen said that it looked like a clown had painted all of the rooms. goodbye yellow and orange living room! goodbye nasty lime green bathroom! everything looks so much cleaner now.

picking paint colors:

quick break to swoon at the beautiful northern california light in our kitchen (note the brady-bunch style saloon doors).
on to the next job. curt's friend lent us a paint sprayer for the bedroom ceilings.
up until last night, i wasn't sure the exposed ceilings were the way to go for our bedroom. i'm beyond convinced now. it's amazing. i can't believe how gorgeous our bedroom is going to be. it's like a giant barn in there. complete hidden treasure...i got the back-flip feeling. i can't believe this is now this:

ma and pa came up on friday to help with the house (4-day summer work weeks for me!):
to be fair, that was only after we kicked them out in a minor panic attack. here's ma sanding the walls (just a gentle "kiss"):
and pops manhandling the edger:
here's the weekend recap:
- organized the tools....it was way too chaotic (of course, it's a complete mess again)

- curt filled in the hole hidden behind the
monstrosity of a medicine cabinet that we ripped out:

- we sanded the walls and covered everything with dust (plastic sheeting be damned!)

- curt bonded with the sanding machine, pops held the cord

-dad and i turned the
"pie-window" between the kitchen and living room in to a fully functioning doorway

now, instead of seeing this while sitting on the yet-to-exist couch:
you'll see this (except we'll fill in that old-doorway with a wall...):
as seen from the kitchen looking in to the living room and the new hallway to the front bedroom and bathroom:

sunday there was a minor interruption (that makes masters #4, by the way):

at 11:45 last night, we finally packed up the machines and covered the floors...more to come later this week...

nothing better than coming back from a weekend visiting the family (happy birthday pops!) to a newly sheetrocked bedroom. it looks like a real room for the first time...

and last night (after driving back from LA) we took out the ugly medicine cabinet in the bathroom...

lot's of work this weekend. baby steps, but good progress.

1. before: floors with goo, after: floors stripped and ready for sanding

messy process...

2. insulation for bedroom wall. it's pink!

galen, myself and a beautifully insulated wall:

learning how to tack up sheetrock

the german carpenter pants finally get put to their true use!

one bedroom wall done...5,000,000,000 to go.

3. bedroom/ living room window knocked out and ready for stained glass panel

4. ceiling rafters cleaned up, not as scary anymore...open ceiling might actually work out.

5. kitchen sink rebellion gets squashed (with a little help from the plumber).

and finally a small break...camping chairs put to temporary use as patio furniture.
